Gruffalo Visit 11th  July 2018

Today we have had the most fabulous time at Beaumanor where we went to search for the Gruffalo!  On arriving at Beaumanor, we had our fruit and a drink before setting off on our adventure.  We split into two groups of 15 and completed 4 activities throughout the day.  Firstly we found some animal foot prints which we tried drawing in the sand and on whiteboards.  We drew pictures of the characters from the story and wrote invitations to a tea party.  We then found lots of woodland animals hiding amongst the trees.  We helped them out and set up a tea party for them.  No sign of the Gruffalo yet!  Next we went among the roots and branches of a large tree and began to build a den, hoping the Gruffalo would come and visit.  We even climbed up parts of the tree to see if he was hiding.  No luck yet.  Having been so busy in the morning, we decided to stop for lunch before continuing our adventure in the afternoon.  We arrived at the Glades where there was lots of woodland artefacts which we used to build our own Gruffalo picture.  We loved picking up large branches and rocks and getting very mucky!!!  Still no sign of the Gruffalo.  Finally, we went on a fabulous woodland walk.  Along the way we found many footprints belonging to mouse, snake, owl, fox and even the Gruffalo, but still no sign of him.  Lots of the trees were very old and interesting in shape with many of them having faces (all of them different and fun to spot).  Eventually, we came to an old ice house where there was a blanket on the floor.  Could this have belonged to the Gruffalo?   We also found a round house which was very dark and scary, but some of us were brave enough to see if the Gruffalo was hiding there.  Then it was time to come home, and still we had not found the Gruffalo until...... he was hiding in the tree where we started our day just by the bus!  It was a fabulous day out, we have walked a lot and are now very tired, but very happy!  Thank you Beaumanor for having us.

Fire Fighter Visit   27th April 2018

Today we were visited by the firefighters from Hinckley Fire Station.  The children had thought of some fabulous questions to ask.  We then spent time looking at the different parts of the fire engine, where all the equipment was stored and we got to sit inside as well.  After that, the firefighters brought some of their kit into the classroom so we could talk about why they have a special uniform.  Miss Steele had to wear the whole kit, including the oxygen tank and has an even greater respect for the job they do now after feeling how hot and heavy the uniform and kit is.  Thank you Hinckley Fire Brigade!

POLICE VISIT  April 2018

This week we have been thinking about lots of different people who help us.  PCSO Suzie and Police Officer Dave came into school and answered all our questions.  They brought different parts of the uniform, which we got to try on, and talked about the different tools they have on their stab vests.  We then got a chance to sit in the police car.  We had to cover our ears when the siren went off as it was very loud!  Lots of us have decided we would like to become police officers now!

'Bikeability'  Week beginning 29th January 2018

This week the children have enjoyed 4 days of 'bikeability'.  Some of the children have been beginners, where some were more confident.  They had a great time learning to slalom between cones, stop and pick up objects, turn safely and go over a ramp.  The children spent time scooting before they were told to lift their feet at certain points to balance.  A great time was had by everyone.  Check out the twitter feed @St_Margarets_SG.

Week beginning 22nd January 2018

We've been having great fun this week learning about the sun.  Unfortunately we haven't had the weather to make shadows, but we had some really windy and wet weather.  We decided to make the most of this and investigate how the wind blew our pieces of material, before having some fun singing songs and wading through a very large puddle.  We got wet, but had the best time!  Lots of vocabulary and super language used to describe our experiences.  Take a look at the pictures below of this week.
