Welcome to the Year 1 class page.
Here is some information we hope you will find useful.
This page will give you an insight into the learning that we are doing in class.
Miss J Robinson is your class teacher. Each morning Mrs H Clark and Mrs K Payton work alongside the children in class. Every afternoon Mrs H Warwick works in our classroom as well. Mrs H Ibbitson will be working in Year 1 on every alternate Thursday.
Please remember that our door is always open. If parents or carers wish to speak to a class teacher then they can contact Miss J Robinson via the school office, or at the end of the school day.
is on a Monday afternoon and Friday morning. Remember your kit! PE is generally indoor on a Wednesday this half term however we will be going for games on a Friday so please ensure you have indoor and outdoor kit.
Your child will read to either Miss Robinson or Mrs Clark once a week, where they will change reading books as necessary.
We hope this information is helpful to you and if you have any questions or comments, please get in touch with us.

What a fantastic day we had on our trip to Tycross Zoo! We were lucky enough to see lots of amazing animals including snow leopards, kangaroos, elephants, giraffes, meerkats and penguins only to name a few! One of the highlights from the day was exploring the new chimpanzee habitat ‘Eden’ which is new to the zoo for 2018 - this exciting new home is a beautiful place of residence for a group of chimpanzees. Whilst here we listened to one of the zoo keeper’s giving a talk and found out the names of two of the chimpanzees which were Coco and Jambo! Shortly after this we visited the Discovery Centre which is an under-cover classroom to learn a little more about animals and their senses. We had great fun and even got to meet and stroke Colin the Cockroach and Monty the chinchilla!
A lovely day had by all and the children in Year 1 were a credit to St Margaret’s.
This week we have been looking at comparing, describing and measuring capacity. We began by comparing how full containers were and used language such as full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty to describe them. Then we had great fun outside taking part in a water relay race.
Each team had the same amount of water in their starting bucket but had to use different sized containers to transport the water to the end bucket. We explored and discussed how capacity is a measure of how much something can hold. Therefore the different capacities of the containers influenced the race!
This week we spoke about how it is important to …
We discussed what kindness is:
We made a Kindness Handprint Heart…
We wrote kindness notes to send to each other…
This week we observed changes across the four seasons by going on and autumn walk. We had great fun searching for signs of autumn and recording what we found! Some of things we observed were...
Brown, orange and yellow leaves
Conkers and conker husks
Next week we will be thinking about the changes in trees across the seasons!!!
This week we have been finding out about Neil Armstrong. We found out that he is a significant individual in history because he was the first person to walk on the Moon in 1969! We had great fun watching the space shuttle that Neil Armstrong travelled to the moon in!
We then built our own models of Apollo 11…
What types of prayers do Christians use?
This week we have been thinking about the four different types of Christian prayers. We discussed how some prayers show all four and some just one or two.
These are praise, saying sorry, saying thank you and asking for something.
We used jelly babies to represent each character and the different types of prayer…
We also created our own prayer to say thank you to God.
We decided this would be a Thea Thanks prayer…
Thank you for making the world,
Thank you for our homes,
Thank you for our Mums and Dads,
Thank you for our pets,
Thank you for our friends,
Thank you for our school,
What are you thankful for?
